What started as an idea approximately 3 years ago became a reality during the summer of 2026. As part of our backyard enhancement project to improve accessibility, ACL wanted to include an accessible wheelchair swing for the individuals we support. To have an all inclusive backyard space that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities.
ACL-BB received a $5,000 grant from Farm Credit Canada in February of 2024. Then in August 2025, we received another grant in the amount of $5,500 from Co-op Community Support Fund. The year 2025 also saw the Fundraising Committee come back to life. An additional $4,400 has been raised from raffle draws.
In February 2026, our SportsPlay wheelchair accessible swing ordered through School Specialty finally arrived. Thanks to our handyman crew from Day Program, Brad, Devin & Trevor our swing was officially in use by the end of July 2026.
Our accessible wheelchair swing allows individuals with mobility issues the opportunity to enjoy the simple pleasure of swinging and the health benefits that come along with it.
